Cementis assisted GIZ in assessing the current barriers and opportunities to improve blended cement usage in Peru as a tool to reduce GHG emissions by the Peruvian cement industry
Decrease clinker content in cement is the most efficient lever to reduce GHG emissions from cement. After having done first an assessment of the current situation Cementis has been required to propose efficient measures to further reduce clinker factor in Peru. The project aimed at making proposals to improve blended cement usage in Peru.
Main tasks of Cementis consisted in:
- Assessing the current level of blended cement usage
- Assess all barriers affecting a broader usage of blended cement (availability of raw material, economic feasibility as compared to pure portland cement, regulatory framework including standards, technical knowledge of relevant Authorities and customers, etc..)
- Propose practical measures to overcome those barriers.
The proposed measures were presented and discussed in a workshop with the main stakeholders.
